These shade-loving beauties – Azaleas – do well in cold regions. They grow abundantly also in Ooty and are abundant in the Ooty Botanical Gardens.

Matchstick Flower

Its very interesting to see different flowers and plants  in various places across the country.

I found this unique flower, popularly called  matchstick flower, when I visited Ratan Tata Holiday Home for Officers at Ooty last year.

Here is picture of the same.

The scientific name is Aechmea gamosepala and it is a Bromeliad.

The botanical name of Sunflower is Helianthus annuus. It belongs to composite, it’s a annual, tall plant. The flower head is actually an inflorescence made of hundreds or thousands of tiny flowers called florets. Double Sunflower is very attractive, remains fresh for two to three weeks.
